The year 2020 came with expectations and looked very promising until COVID-19 came from nowhere and put the dreams of people especially celebrities on hold but that did not stop some Ghanaian celebrities from walking down the aisle with the love of their lives. Despite the strict COVID-19 protocols, some celebrities went through the pain and tied the knot to their partners in colourful ceremonies.

These celebrity weddings in 2020 became the talk on the internet, trended for days and got the full attention of the media like photos and videos from these celebrity weddings were published by almost every media house and blogs in Ghana. The publicity these celebrity weddings received made us aware of how people value and cherish the marriage institution in Ghana.

Even though some of the celebrities who got married were rocked with allegations of either jilting someone they were dating to marry their partners or covering pregnancies with the wedding ceremony to avoid giving birth out of wedlock. Kaakie and her Anansi Aidoo: On Saturday, January 4, 2020, Dancehall musician, Grace Kaki Awo Ocansey also known as Kaakie got married to her fiancé Anansi Aidoo and it became one of the celebrity weddings that got the majority of people talking as it came as a surprise to them. According to reports, Kaakie and Anansi Aidoo were High School mates from Achimota Senior High School. Kaakie and Anansi Aidoo’s white wedding happened at East Legon Hills. As expected, they received congratulatory messages from the majority of Ghanaian celebrities.

Kennedy Asante Osei and Tracy Ameyaw: Kennedy and Tracy caught the attention of Ghanaians after he pulled a surprising marriage to Tracy on a flight. People then started following them on Instagram to know how their marriage ceremony was going to look like and the ceremony lived up to expectation. Their colourful traditional happened on February 13 and the white wedding on February 14, 2020, at Trasaco. Their marriage ceremony was a display of wealth looking at the number of expensive cars lined up for the ceremony. Tracy and Kennedy’s white wedding trended for days and was on the lips of Ghanaians on social media. So far, no celebrity wedding in Ghana comes near that wedding. It’s reported that Kennedy Asante Osei and his wife, Tracy, have welcomed twins and they are yet to officially announce on Instagram.

Noble Nketsiah and Eugenia Dela Grey: Gospel musician Noble Nketsiah and his girlfriend Eugenia Dela Grey got married on February 16, 2020, at the Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Sakumono. Their wedding ceremony didn’t get the attention needed because of Kennedy Asante Osei and Tracy Ameyaw’s lavish wedding ceremony.

Fella Makafui and Medikal: Rapper Medikal and actress Fella Makafui also tied the knot on Saturday 7th of March, 2020 at East Legon. There was a bit of drama on the day of their marriage ceremony as Fella Makafui collapsed when he hit the dancefloor to exhibit her dance moves. It was also reported that Medikal married Fella Makafui as a result of pressure from her family but he came out and rubbished those rumours. Kyeiwaa and her husband rocked a beautiful traditional outfit and they looked all glammed up during the ceremony attended by selected friends and family.

Joe Mettle and Salomey Selassie Dzisa: Award-winning gospel musician, Joe Mettle and his longtime girlfriend, Salomey Selassie Dzisa, tied the knot on August 13, 2020. Their white wedding reception took place at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City Accra. Their wedding was simple yet classy with fewer guests in attendance. There were rumours that Joe Mettle’s wife, Selassie was pregnant before walking down the aisle but he later granted an interview to Zionfelix and made things clear that his wife was never pregnant before their marriage. Clemento Suarez and Sylvia Bioh: Comedian Clemento Suarez got married to his longtime girlfriend, Sylvia Bioh, in a colourful traditional marriage ceremony on Saturday, October 24, 2020. Their traditional wedding happened ceremony at Ayigya Zongo in Kumasi. Clemento Suarez’s fellow comedians such as Foster Romanus, Fred Amugi, Delong and General Ntatia graced the ceremony.
