Would you believe that the biggest ‘scam’/’lie’ (delete as appropriate) to have ever happened in the Ghana Music Industry happened and has lived with us for more than 50 years now since 1970?

Well, fasten your belts as we uncover the truth of the matter that we have been living with since 1970.

Popular Ghanaian Highlife Legend, Nana Kwame Ampadu is well known for his unmatched songwriting skills in Ghana. Nana Kwame Ampadu is known to be one of the founding fathers of High Life music in Ghana, and Africa at large.

It only took us 50 years since the release of Nana Kwame Ampadu’s popular High Life song, Oman Bo Adwo, has some lines that can be classified as ‘scam’ – for a better word.

Nana Kwame Ampadu

According to 84-year-old legendary highlife singer, Abirekyeba Kofi Sammy, a senior colleague of Nana Kwame Ampadu, the song composed in 1970 was his idea but he has never been given the due credit by the latter.

Legendary Abirekyeba Kofi Sammy explained that he worked on the composition and even gave Nana Kwame Ampadu the idea and theme for the song including the chorus.

Speaking to Abeiku Santana on Okay FM today, Wednesday 10 March, 2021, Legendary Abirekyeba Kofi Sammy added that the Igbo lines in the famous ‘Oman Bo Adwo’ song which we’ve all live with and believed it actually meant what Nana Kwame Ampadu had said in the preceding verse is not IGBO and therefore has no meaning to it! – it was a scam.

He explained that he gave Kofi Gyan those words to use since there was no one around who could speak any foreign language during the recording of the song.

Meanwhile, Ghanaians, since the release of the song some 50 years ago have been jamming and singing along thinking it was pure Igbo.

It appears its not only Patapaa and Stonebwoy who invented their own lyrics, Nana Kwame Ampadu with the help of Legendary Abirekyeba Kofi Sammy invented their own language and lyrics 50 years ago, they just scammed us by making us believe it was the famous IGBO language from Nigeria.
