The single “Essence” by Nigerian musician Wizkid, which features fast-rising singer Tems, has climbed to number 72 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Wizkid’s latest album’s song, “Made In Lagos,” debuted at number one for the first time 82 days ago, marking a big victory for the artist after breaking the Billboard Bubbling Under Charts for the first time.
This is a huge accomplishment for both Wizkid and Tems, who are signed to the same label, as well as African music in general.
Wizkid, on the other hand, isn’t new to the Hot 100 chart.
His appearances on Drake’s “One Dance,” which reached No. 1 in 2016, and Beyonce’s “Brown Skin Girl,” which peaked at #76 in 2019, helped him break into the top 100.
This is Tems‘ first appearance as the buzz over her debut grows.
