Major White was born in Long Beach, California, on July 31, 1915, Following Sea School in 1935, he attended Boot Camp in San Diego in 1934.
In 1936, he became a Shellback after crossing the Equator aboard the USS Colorado. In the years 1936-1937, he was stationed in Pearl Harbor.
In 1937, he transferred to the 4th Marine Regiment in Shanghai, China. Following that was Recruiting Duty in Los Angeles.
When WWII broke out in 1942, he was assigned to Parachute School before being transferred to the 4th Parachute Battalion and then to the 4th Battalion in Bougainville.
In 1943, paratroopers were recalled from the Pacific and established the 28th Marine Regiment, which was part of the 5th Marine Division. He proceeded to Hawaii’s Parker Ranch for training in preparation for the invasion of Iwo Jima.
