26-year-old Meadows, Austin Wade Meadows (born May 3, 1995), is an outfielder with the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball (MLB). He has played for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Tampa Bay Rays in Major League Baseball.
Meadows was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays for Chris Archer on July 31, 2018, along with Tyler Glasnow and a player to be named later, eventually confirmed to be Shane Baz. Meadows was optioned to Triple-A Durham.
On September 19, Meadows was promoted to the Tampa Bay Rays. With the Rays, he hit.250/.308/.417 with a home run and four RBIs in 10 games. Meadows finished the season with a.287/.325/.461 batting line, six home runs, and 17 RBIs in 59 games.
Meadows played in his first All-Star game in 2019. He finished the 2019 season with offensive career highs. In 138 games, he led the club in average (.291), home runs (33), runs (83), and runs batted in (89).
Meadows was placed on the disabled list on July 16, 2020, after testing positive for COVID-19, causing him to miss the start of the shortened 2020 season. On August 4, he returned to the Rays after recuperating from his sickness. Meadows hit.205/.296/.371 in 36 games this season.
He had the lowest ground ball/fly ball ratio (0.54) and the lowest ground ball percentage (28.7%) in the big leagues in 2021. With 27 home runs and 107 RBIs, he concluded the 2021 season with a.234 batting average.
