26-year-old Edward Olivares (born March 6, 1996) is a Venezuelan professional baseball outfielder for the Major League Baseball Kansas City Royals (MLB). He was previously with the San Diego Padres.
On July 2, 2014, the Toronto Blue Jays signed Olivares as an international free agent. In his professional debut with the DSL Blue Jays in 2014, he hit.314/.436/.414/.850 with 1 home run and 22 RBI.
The Padres traded Olivares and a player to be named later to the Kansas City Royals on August 29, 2020, in exchange for bullpen pitcher Trevor Rosenthal. Olivares batted.274 with two home runs and seven RBIs in 18 games with the 2020 Kansas City Royals.
Olivares began the 2021 season with the Omaha Storm Chasers at Triple-A. Throughout the season, he was shuttled back and forth between Triple-A and the Royals. He got called up to Kansas City for the first time on May 30.
On June 3, he was sent to Omaha. He was recalled to Kansas City on June 6. On June 9, he was optioned to Omaha once more. He was recalled to Kansas City on June 14. On June 17, he was returned to Omaha. On June 30, he was summoned to Kansas City once more. On July 4, he was returned to Omaha by the club.
