Andrew Benintendi Red Sox Career
The Boston Red Sox selected Benintendi with the seventh overall pick in the 2015 Major League Baseball draft. He received a $3.6 million signing bonus when he signed with the Red Sox.
Benintendi made his professional debut with the Lowell Spinners of the New York–Penn League’s Class A-Short Season.
Andrew concluded the 2015 season with the Class A Greenville Drive, appearing in 19 games and hitting 26/74 (.351) with an OPS of 1.011.
On May 15, he was promoted to the Portland Sea Dogs of the Class AA Eastern League, where he opened the 2016 season with the Salem Red Sox of the Class A-Advanced Carolina League.
Benintendi was promoted to the major leagues by the Red Sox on August 2, 2016, only 421 days after being taken in the draft.
On August 2, he made his main league debut as a pinch hitter against the Seattle Mariners, then on August 3, he got his first major league hit off of Hisashi Iwakuma.
In a 10–5 loss to the Detroit Tigers on August 21, Benintendi hit his first major league triple and home run.
Benintendi hit his first postseason home run against the Cleveland Indians on October 6, 2016, in Game 1 of the 2016 ALDS against Trevor Bauer.
Benintendi made history by being the youngest Red Sox player to hit a postseason home run. The Indians, on the other hand, won the game 5–4 and swept the series in three games.
In 34 games played in 2016, Benintendi had a .295 batting average, 31 hits, 14 RBIs, two home runs, and one stolen base.
Benintendi began the 2017 season as a member of the Red Sox’ Opening Day roster, batting second in a 5–3 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
