Alokesh Lahiri popularly known as Bappi Lahiri passed on Tuesday15th February 2022, was born on November 27, 1952. He was an Indian singer, composer, politician and record producer.
He sang some compositions of his own and popularised the use of synthesized disco music in Indian cinema. He delivered major box office successes in Bengali films like Amar Sangee, Asha O Bhalobasha, Karma Tumi, Raktelekha, Priya, and so on.
He was popular in the 1980s and 1990s with film soundtracks such as Wardat, Disco Dancer, Namak Halaal, and Dance Dance.
Bappi Lahiri joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2014. He was declared a BJP candidate from Sreerampur (Lok Sabha constituency) in West Bengal for the 2014 Indian general election and lost.
He won best music director at the Filmfare awards in 1985 and won a lifetime achievement award in 2018. These are 2 of many honours bestowed upon him during his long career.

Bappi married his spouse Chitrani Lahiri on 24th January 1977. The two together have two children, a son, Bappa Lahiri, and a daughter, Rema Lahiri. Chitrani, Lahiri’s surviving wife is also in the film industry as a producer.
