It’s safe to say that Aaron Donald has done everything a player can do in the NFL. Despite being one of the best defensive players of his generation, Donald finally won the Super Bowl in Super Bowl LVI, where he played to his full potential.
Donald had two sacks, three quarterback hits, and two tackles for loss as the Los Angeles Rams defensive line tied a Super Bowl record with seven sacks. To clinch the championship for the Los Angeles Lakers, Donald had the game-winning hit on Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow on a fourth-and-1 play with 42 seconds left.
When asked about retiring if the Rams won the Super Bowl, Donald didn’t respond. This is true even if there isn’t much more he can do in his Hall of Fame career.
On Donald’s résumé, you’ll find choices to eight All-Pro teams, three Defensive Player of the Year accolades, and one Super Bowl victory. In the last eight seasons, he’s the only player in the NFL with more than 200 quarterback hits (150 tackles for loss and 98 sacks) (226).
It’s the most total quarterback hits and sacks for a defensive tackle in NFL history after little over 100 games.
Donald’s reputation as one of the best defensive players in history is undeniable. When it comes to ending one’s career, Donald could not have done much better.
