Carlos Santana is a Dominican-American professional baseball designated hitter and first baseman for the Major League Baseball Kansas City Royals. He was born on April 8, 1986. He is 5 feet 11 inches (1.80 m) tall
He made his MLB debut with the Cleveland Indians on June 11, 2010, and he also played the 2018 season with the Philadelphia Phillies. He has represented the Dominican Republic at the international level, winning the gold medal in the 2013 World Baseball Classic (WBC). Santana, who is noted for his plate discipline and power, is also a capable first-base defender.
Santana ranked fourth in the American League in walks and seventh in times on base (242). He led AL first basemen in total zone runs (13) and assists, and was second in double plays (129), fourth in putouts (1,055), and seventh in fielding %. (.996).
The Indians won an AL-best 102 games during the regular season but were beaten in the ALDS by the wild-card qualified New York Yankees.
At first base, he earned his first career Wilson Defensive Player of the Year Award, which is presented to the best defensive player in the big leagues at each position. At first base, he was also named a finalist for the American League Rawlings Gold Glove Award.
