Dr. Dre led a group of his closest colleagues in a joyous, groovy, fully trunk-rattling halftime act at the Super Bowl on Sunday.

Despite the fact that rap has dominated popular music for decades, the National Football League known for its conservative values allowed Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, and Kendrick Lamar to perform a nearly 14-minute set at Inglewood’s SoFi Stadium, near where the Grammy-winning rapper and producer grew up in Compton.

In addition to Dre and 50 Cent, who hadn’t been publicized in advance, turned up to perform his unforgettable “In Da Club.”

In addition to taking place during the Los Angeles Rams’ home victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, the show was a celebration of Black Los Angeles from the outset, taking place on a set that included architectural replicas of Tam’s Burgers, Dale’s Donuts, and the Compton courthouse, among other things.

Questlove, the Roots drummer and director of the Oscar-nominated documentary “Summer of Soul,” praised the show on Twitter, calling it “the most beautifulest blackest show ever.”

He also said it was “the antidote for ALL the ‘Up With People’ness endured in the last 5 decades,” according to the New York Times. Chuck D of Public Enemy is a tyrant.
