Helen Lydia Mirren is an actress from England. Mirren is the only performer to have won the Triple Crown of Acting in both the United States and the United Kingdom, and she has received numerous awards.
She won an Academy Award and a British Academy Film Award for her performance as Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen, a Tony Award and a Laurence Olivier Award for the same role in The Audience, three British Academy Television Awards for her role as DCI Jane Tennison in Prime Suspect, and four Primetime Emmy Awards, two of which were for Prime Suspect.
In 1965, while performing with the National Youth Theatre, Mirren played Cleopatra in Antony and Cleopatra. In the same year, she was invited to join the Royal Shakespeare Company, and in 1975, she made her West End theatrical debut.
Mirren has gone on to enjoy a successful career in television and cinema since then.
Mirren’s other Oscar nominations were for The Madness of King George (1994), Gosford Park (2001), and The Last Station (2001), in addition to her Academy Award-winning performance (2009).
She received three consecutive British Academy Television Awards for Best Actress (1992, 1993, and 1994), a joint-record of consecutive victories shared with Julie Walters, and two Primetime Emmy Awards for her role on Prime Suspect, which aired from 1991 to 2006.
Mirren is the only performer to have portrayed both Queen Elizabeths on cinema, having played Queen Elizabeth I in the television series Elizabeth I (2005) and Queen Elizabeth II in the film The Queen (2006).
