The New York Yankees just demonstrated how unpredictable MLB life can be. Aaron Boone had to eat his words just one day later once fresh requirements developed, despite Albert Abreu’s excellent spring. Late Saturday, Brian Cashman resumed his dealing routine.
Abreu, who is 26 years old, appeared to be ready to leave his problems behind him, as he arrived in great shape and with good speed. Even yet, his name was never mentioned in trade talks.
In exchange for Jose Trevino, the Yankees sent Abreu and former Oregon left-hander Robby Ahlstrom to the Texas Rangers.
While Abreu arrived in New York with a lot of fanfare, his stint in the city of lights was cut short after only two seasons. To say the least, it’s not ideal.
Abreu, who was acquired from the Astros in the trade that brought Brian McCann to Houston, has a 5.68 ERA in 30 games for the Bronx over the last two seasons. The speed is there, but Abreu never seemed to bring everything together.
Trevino, 29, isn’t much of a hitter, having hit .245 with a 70 OPS+ in parts of four seasons with the Rangers. His glove has value since his defensive WAR demonstrates that he has been a strong defender since entering the league.
He could serve as a capable backup to Higashikoa.
How Did The Yankees Get Albert Abreu?
The Yankees got Albert Abreu in a trade. The Astros traded Abreu and Jorge Guzmán to the New York Yankees for Brian McCann on November 17, 2016.
