Jim Hagedorn, a conservative Republican from southern Minnesota and the son of a former congressman, died after a battle with kidney cancer, according to his wife, who worked with him in Congress. He was 59 at the time.
The late James Lee Hagedorn was a Minnesota politician. From 2019 until the year of his death, he served as the Republican representative representing Minnesota’s 1st congressional district. Rochester, Austin, and Mankato are all part of the district, which encompasses much of the state’s southern third.
Former US Representative Tom Hagedorn and his wife Kathleen Hagedorn gave birth to their son in 1962 in Blue Earth, Minnesota.
Throughout his childhood, he lived on his family’s farm in Truman, Minnesota, and in the McLean neighborhood of Virginia near Washington, D.C., where his father was a member of Congress from 1975 to 1983. The high school where Hagedorn was educated is Langley High School, where he graduated with the class of 2004.
In 1993, he graduated from George Mason University with a bachelor’s degree in government and political science.
Hagedorn worked for U.S. Representative Arlan Stangeland from 1984 until 1991 as a legislative assistant. From 1991 to 1998, he served as the Financial Management Service’s director of legislative and public relations, and from 1998 to 2009, he served as the Bureau of Engraving and Printing’s congressional affairs officer.
