Julian Christopher Merryweather is an American professional baseball pitcher who currently plays for the Toronto Blue Jays of Major League Baseball. Merryweather was born on October 14, 1991.
Merryweather went to Junipero Serra High School, which is located in San Mateo, California. He then went on to play baseball for Skyline College and Oklahoma Baptist University, both of which are located in the United States.
Merryweather’s pitching with the Bison resulted in a win-loss record of 22–5, an earned run average (ERA) of 1.73, and 208 strikeouts over the course of two seasons.
The Cleveland Indians picked Merryweather in the fifth round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft. In his professional debut, he went 12–2 with a 3.66 ERA in 13 games with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers.
He pitched for the Lake County Captains in 2015, going 13–6 with a 2.60 ERA in 702/3 innings, and the Lynchburg Hillcats and Akron RubberDucks in 2016, going 13–6 with a 2.60 ERA in 24 games started between the two clubs. Merryweather began the 2017 season with Akron Zips before being promoted to the Columbus Clippers midway through the year.
Merryweather had a 7–9 record and a 5.32 ERA in 25 games between Akron and Columbus. After the season, the Indians added him to their 40-man roster.
During the Indians’ 2018 spring training camp, Merryweather damaged his throwing elbow. The Indians announced that he will require Tommy John surgery and will miss the entire 2018 season as a result.
