Isbel was a baseball player for Etiwanda High School in Rancho Cucamonga, California. He hit .347 as a junior. He committed to play college baseball at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas after his junior year (UNLV).
He enrolled at UNLV after going undrafted in the 2015 Major League Baseball draft.
Isbel hit.319 with one home run and 28 RBIs in 56 games as a rookie at UNLV in 2016, winning Mountain West Conference co-Freshman of the Year honors.
He was a member of the Santa Barbara Foresters of the California Collegiate League that summer. He batted .290 with six home runs and 26 RBIs in 55 games as a sophomore at UNLV in 2017.
He was selected as a league all-star while playing with the Yarmouth–Dennis Red Sox in the Cape Cod Baseball League.
Isbel slashed .357/.443/.643 with 14 home runs and 56 RBIs in 59 games as a junior, earning All-MW First-Team accolades.
After the season, he was drafted in the third round of the 2018 Major League Baseball draft by the Kansas City Royals.
Before being promoted to the Lexington Legends, Isbel signed with the Royals and made his professional debut with the Idaho Falls Chukars.
Isbel hit .326 in 64 games between the two teams, with seven home runs, 32 RBIs, and 24 stolen bases. He began the 2019 season with the Wilmington Blue Rocks.
In April, he was placed on the injured list, then in July, he was activated. Before being moved to Wilmington, he appeared in seven rehab games.
Isbel hit .216 with five home runs and 23 RBIs in 52 games with the Blue Rocks. After the season, he played in the Arizona Fall League for the Surprise Saguaros, winning All-Star honors.
He did not play in a minor league game in 2020 since the minor league season was canceled due to the COVID-19 epidemic.
