Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy and Mani Manjari had a son named Mekapati Goutham Reddy. Prithvi Kumar Reddy and Vikram Reddy were his two brothers. Rajamohan Reddy, his father, was a former Member of Parliament from the Nellore Lok Sabha seat.

Reddy earned his Bachelor’s degree in Apparel and Textiles from Badruka College in Hyderabad and his Master’s degree in Apparel and Textiles from the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom between 1994 and 1997.

He had a son and a daughter with Srikeerthi. He tested positive for COVID-19 twice, the first time in 2021 and the second time in January 2022.

As a member of the YSR Congress Party, Reddy first entered politics in 2014 when he ran for the Atmakur constituency.

He defeated incumbent Anam Ramanarayana Reddy of the Indian National Congress and trounced his nearest rival GM Kanna Babu of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) with a majority of 31,412 votes cast for him.

On February 21, 2022, in Hyderabad, Reddy died of a heart attack.
