Zackary Grant Britton known professionally as Zack Britton until February 2019, is an American professional baseball pitcher for the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball (MLB). He previously played for the Baltimore Orioles.
Santa Clarita, California was Britton’s home growing up, where he was the youngest of his three brothers. Despite the fact that his great-grandmother on his mother’s side is from the Dominican Republic, he is unable to speak Spanish. The fact that his father, Greg, is of German and Irish descent accounts for his naturally light skin.
In the first year of high school that he attended, he was a student at Canyon High. As a result of plunging headfirst onto concrete while trying to catch a foul popup while participating in baseball practice with the freshmen team, he suffered fractures of the skull and collarbone in addition to bleeding in the brain. These injuries occurred as a direct result of the incident. He was treated in the intensive care unit for two days.
Following the relocation of his family to Texas, Britton made the decision to change high schools and attended Weatherford. In addition to his role as a pitcher, he was recognized as an all-state outfielder for the baseball team.
It was offered to Britton that he may attend Texas A&M University on an athletic scholarship.
