In the second game of the season, the Orioles beat the Toronto Blue Jays 3-1, and Britton recorded his first save of the season.

 

Since October 1, 2015, he had saved 50 consecutive games with a converted try. Only five other pitchers in MLB history have converted at least 50 straight save opportunities.

 

The Orioles went 3-0 on the season thanks to a 6-5 win over the Yankees two days later, thanks to Britton’s heroics. For the fourth time in a row, he tied José Valverde for the most consecutive save chances with 51.

 

He also tied Jim Johnson for second place in Orioles history with 122 saves. With his third save of the season and 52nd straight, Britton tied Jeurys Familia for third place all-time in saves.

 

With his 123rd hit for the Orioles, he became the team’s all-time second-place hitter. Against the Blue Jays, Britton recorded his fourth save of the season.

 

After making his 53rd consecutive save, he has now taken the third spot on the all-time tally of consecutive saves. Following his 54th save in a row, Britton jumped into a second-place tie for the most consecutive saves in baseball history.

Britton was placed on the 10-day disabled list on April 16 because of tightness in his left forearm. After being activated on May 2, Britton was then placed on the 10-day disabled list due to the same forearm ailment.

Before the All-Star break in early July, Britton was given the green light to make his MLB debut. He made his first save since April on July 23.

 

His 55th consecutive save to set a new American League mark for the most consecutive saves in a season. He also took over second place in the record books for the most consecutive saves made.

 

The Athletics tied the game in the eighth inning on August 23 when Britton gave up two runs. His streak had come to an end. At the age of 60, he came to the end of his 704-day record.

 

 

After 38 appearances in the bullpen, he finished the year with an ERA of 2.89, a 2-1 record, and 15 saves. As many as 87.5 percent of his pitches were sinkers. A ruptured Achilles tendon forced Britton out of action for six months on December 20.
