Chad Keith Green is a Major League Baseball pitcher who currently pitches for the New York Yankees. In 2016, he made his MLB debut as a starter for the Yankees, and in 2017 he switched to bullpen pitching.

 

Green was born in the city of Greenville in the state of South Carolina. Howard and Sheena Green are his parents.

He has a twin brother (Chase), an elder sister (Lynsie), and an older brother who played shortstop for Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville (Blake).

 

As a senior at Effingham High School in Effingham, Illinois, Green was a three-time All-Apollo Conference selection, a two-time All-Area honoree, and an All-State honoree.

 

Green was picked in the 37th round of the 2010 MLB draft by the Toronto Blue Jays out of high school.

 

He did not sign with Toronto and instead enrolled at the University of Louisville, where he was a member of the Louisville Cardinals’ college baseball team.

 

With a 2.38 career earned run average (ERA), he left as the school’s all-time leader. He played collegiate summer baseball for the Bourne Braves of the Cape Cod Baseball League in 2011 and 2012.

 

Green was drafted in the 11th round of the 2013 MLB draft by the Detroit Tigers.

 

He made his professional debut with the GCL Tigers that year, and after two games, he was promoted to the Lakeland Flying Tigers, where he went 3-0 with a 3.63 ERA in 17.1 innings pitched.

 

He made 23 starts for the West Michigan Whitecaps in 2014, going 6-4 with a 3.11 ERA. He pitched for the Erie SeaWolves in 2015, posting a 5-14 record and a 5.93 ERA in 27 starts.
