Harold Norbert Kalas was an American sportscaster who won the Ford C. Frick Award for his work as the principal play-by-play announcer for the Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball from 1971 until his death in 2009.

Harold Norbert Kalas was born in Chicago, Illinois, the son of a Greek Methodist preacher.

He attended Naperville High School in 1954 and the University of Iowa in 1959, where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.

He was drafted into the US Army and stationed in Hawaii shortly after graduation. Kalas began calling minor-league baseball games for the Hawaii Islanders after he was discharged from the military in 1961.
