Nardos Ghebrelul, an Eritrean immigrant dentist, and John Benton, a Black American and Japanese lawyer, gave birth to Rubi Rose Benton on October 2, 1997, in Lexington, Kentucky, where she was also raised.
Despite being Eritrean, her mother was born in Ethiopia. Her paternal grandmother is of African-American ancestry, while her paternal grandfather is Japanese. Scarlette is her older sister, and she has a younger sister.
Geneva, Switzerland, was her home for a year. Her junior year of high school was spent in Snellville, Georgia. At Georgia State University, she studied politics.

Rose appeared in the music video for Cardi B’s track “WAP,” which was released on August 7, 2020. A&R Chris Turner of LA Reid’s Hitco Entertainment signed her to the label in 2019.
