Why Is Johnny Depp Divorcing Amber Heard?

Heard and Depp married in February 2015. In May 2016, Heard filed for divorce from Depp and secured a temporary restraining order against him,

stating that he had been verbally and physically violent throughout their relationship, generally while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, in her court declaration.

According to Depp, she was “trying to reach a premature financial conclusion.” Johnny Depp sued News Group Newspapers (NGN) in June 2018 for labelling him a “wife abuser” in an April article.

According to the High Court, “the vast majority of Mr Depp’s claimed attacks on Ms Heard have been established to the civil standard”, rejecting any notion of a hoax against him.

A million people joined a petition to remove Heard from Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Depp sued Heard for defamation following a December 2018 op-ed she wrote about her experience as a public victim of domestic abuse.

Depp also claimed Heard was the abuser and her claims were a lie.  As part of the countersuit, Heard claimed Depp had orchestrated “a harassment campaign via Twitter and online petitions” to get her fired from Aquaman and L’Oréal.
