Priscilla Tolkien Parents
J.R.R Tolkien and Edith Tolkien were the parents of Priscilla Tolkien.
J. R. R. Tolkien
Tolkien John Ronald Reuel CBE was born on the 3rd of January 1892 and died on the 2nd of September 1973. He was a University of Oxford philologist, author, and professor. He was a fervent Catholic who devoted his life to the church.
Much of Tolkien’s published fiction is a series of interconnected stories, fictional histories, invented languages, and literary essays about an imagined planet named Arda, and Middle-earth in particular, loosely described as an “alternative” distant past of our own world.
Tolkien coined the term legendarium to describe the entirety of these works. His son Christopher revised and released the majority of the “legendarium” after his death.
While several fantasy authors came before Tolkien, his enduringly popular and successful writings have had a significant impact on the genre.
As a result, he has been dubbed the “Father of Modern Fantasy Literature,” or more precisely, high fantasy.
Together with sword and sorcery novelist Robert E. Howard, he is considered the father of contemporary fantasy by L. Sprague de Camp and others.
Edith Tolkien
Priscilla Tolkien’s mother, Edith Mary Tolkien, was born on January 21, 1889, and died on November 29, 1971. She was J. R. R. Tolkien’s wife.
She was the inspiration for Tolkien’s fictional heroine Lthien Tinviel, an Elven princess and the most beautiful of all the Children of Ilvatar (Tolkien’s mythical term for God).
When they shared a boarding home in 1908, Edith met Tolkien for the first time. They were both orphans.
Despite the fact that Edith was three years Tolkien’s senior, the two fell in love. Tolkien’s guardian, Father Francis Xavier Morgan, learned about the relationship before the end of 1909 and barred Tolkien from seeing Edith until he was 21.
