For much of the year, Pegula competed on the ITF Circuit before breaking into the top 100 in February.

As a result, she was able to compete in some of the most prestigious WTA Tour events, such as Indian Wells and Miami.

In Charleston, she defeated world No. 12 Anastasija Sevastova her way to the third round, her highest result thus far in the early clay court season.

This resulted in her first-ever appearance in the top 75. The first time she competed in a Grand Slam tournament other than the US Open was in the main draw.

First-round defeats to Ashleigh Barty at the French Open and Mihaela Buzărnescu at Wimbledon were the first setbacks of her career.

At the Auckland Open, Jessica defeated CiCi Bellis in the first round to begin her 2020 tennis season. Thereafter she beat Tamara Zidanek and Alizé Cornet to reach the semifinals of Wimbledon.

There she defeated Caroline Wozniacki 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to reach her third WTA final. Pegula was beaten in straight sets by 23-time Grand Slam singles champion Serena Williams, who Pegula met for the first time.
