Calipari is an American basketball coach who was born on February 10, 1959. He has been the head coach of the University of Kentucky men’s basketball team since 2009, and in 2012, he led them to the NCAA Championship.
He was selected Naismith College Coach of the Year three times (in 1996, 2008, and 2015), as well as being inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2015.
From 1988 to 1996, he was the head coach at the University of Massachusetts, the NBA’s New Jersey Nets from 1996 to 1999, and the University of Memphis from 2000 to 2009, as well as the Dominican Republic national team in 2011 and 2012.
In 2011, 2012, 2014, and 2015, Calipari guided Kentucky to four Final Fours. In 1996 and 2008, he guided UMass and Memphis to the Final Four, although both visits were eventually erased when Calipari was cleared of wrongdoing. Calipari has 27 20-win seasons, 11 30-win seasons, and five 35-win seasons under his belt as a collegiate coach.
Calipari is ranked 17th all-time in NCAA Division I winningest coaches as of March 5th, 2022, with 767 official victories.
