Shahabuddin Ahmed, the former president and chief justice of Bangladesh, died at the age of 92 while receiving care at the Combined Military hospital.
He was said to have acted as the president from 1996 to 2001, and the Chief Justice of Bangladesh from 1990 to 1995.
Ahmed was also made to act as the president during the time when the then president of Bangladesh Hussain Muhammad Ershad resigned
He is said to hold a degree in economics as well as a master’s in international relations which he gained from the University of Dhaka.
Ahmed retired as president on 14 November 2001 after he was elected president unopposed on 23 July 1996 due to his nomination by the Awami League government
In February 2022, Ahmed was taken to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) due to an ageing-associated disease but unfortunately died on 19th March 2022.

Shahabuddin Ahmed is said to have married his wife by the name of Anowara Begum with whom they were blessed to have two sons and three daughters.
Ahmed got married to his beautiful wife Anowara Begum when they were both young and had not become a president.
