Eric Robert Greitens (born April 10, 1974) is an American politician, author, and former Navy SEAL who served as Missouri’s 56th governor from January 2017 to June 2018 amid allegations of sexual misconduct and campaign finance irregularities.

Greitens, who was born and bred in St. Louis, earned a bachelor’s degree from Duke University in 1996 and a Ph.D. from Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, in 2000 as a Rhodes scholar.

He advanced to the rank of lieutenant commander, headed an Al-Qaeda-targeting unit, and was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart throughout his four tours of service as a US Navy SEAL officer.

Greitens later launched The Mission Continues, a nonprofit organization that helps veterans, after serving as a White House fellow. He was included to Time magazine’s list of the world’s 100 most influential people in 2013.
