Larry Strickland was born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina, the son of a preacher who liked gospel music. He was hooked after attending his first gospel concert when he was 12 years old.

He began singing in gospel quartets all around North Carolina until he was compelled to join the military in 1966. He was blessed with a deep voice that few had.

He continued singing in gospel quartets in and around North Carolina after four years in the US Army with the National Security Agency in Frankfurt, Germany.

It wasn’t long before JD Sumner and the Stamps Quartet took note of his voice.

Larry was asked to join the group in 1974, and he went from singing in southern regional quartets to traveling and recording with Elvis Presley in no time.

He stayed with Elvis until 1977 when he died.

Larry continued to perform with the Stamps after Elvis’ death. He met an unknown redheaded dynamo in 1979, and she and her daughter went on to establish one of the most famous musical duos in history.

He’s managed, produced, and performed on some of the world’s most prestigious stages throughout it all.

His voice has been heard on millions of records, but he has never lost his love for gospel music and still performs with the Stamps and others.

Larry and Naomi Judd have been together for over three decades and they have two children together.
