According to various accounts, Naomi Judd committed suicide on Saturday at the age of 76, after a long battle with mental illness. There is no concrete evidence at this time of writing if she hanged herself to death.
“A law enforcement and coroner’s investigation is ongoing, and any more information will be shared by the proper authorities,” Adkins said in a statement.
Naomi’s daughters, Ashley and Wynonna Judd released a heartbreaking message this weekend announcing their mother’s death.
“Today we sisters experienced a tragedy. We lost our beautiful mother to the disease of mental illness. We are shattered. We are navigating profound grief and know that as we loved her, she was loved by her public,” the statement read. “We are in unknown territory.”
“Naomi Judd’s family wants privacy during this painful time,” Larry Strickland, Naomi’s 32-year-old husband, said in a statement. At this time, no other information will be shared.”
Naomi had been candid about her struggles with mental illness.
In a 2016 interview with “Good Morning America,” the singer revealed that she had been suffering from “intense” and “serious” depression, which had forced her into seclusion.
After Ashley and Wynonna quit performing as The Judds in 2011, her condition deteriorated, she claimed.
Meanwhile, Wynonna, her older daughter, revealed last year that she attempted suicide when she was 18 and continues to struggle with melancholy.
