Naomi Judd (née Diana Ellen Judd; January 11, 1946 – April 30, 2022) was a singer-songwriter and actress from the United States.
She and her daughter Wynonna founded the Judds duo in 1983, which went on to become a hugely successful country music group, earning five Grammy Honors and nine Country Music Association awards.
The Judds disbanded in 1991 after Naomi was stricken with hepatitis; Wynonna continued to tour as a solo artist, but periodically reconnected with her mother for Judds tours. On the day of her death in 2022, she was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Judd married her second husband, Larry Strickland of the Palmetto State Quartet, on May 6, 1989. She has been depressed for a long time. Her depression deteriorated a decade before she died, and she was plagued by anxiety, panic attacks, and suicide ideas.
Side effects from the drugs she was administered, including lithium, included facial edema, baldness, and tremors, which added to her mental suffering.
Judd committed suicide on April 30, 2022, at the age of 76, in her home in Nashville, Tennessee. Her daughters tweeted, in part, to announce her death: “A tragedy struck our family today. Our lovely mother succumbed to the affliction of mental illness.”
