Joe, a 49-year-old communications sales engineer, and Jess, 44, who manages a hair salon with her sister, have been married for 11 years and have two elementary-aged children.
On Tuesday, May 10, Gloucester residents Joe and Jess Thwaite won a record-breaking £184,262,899 using a Lucky Dip ticket.
Mrs. Thwaite expressed her thoughts as follows: “We haven’t had time to dream since we won.
We’ve had a week to think about it, and now we have time to share many activities with our family and friends.”
An anonymous ticket holder set the previous record in October 2019, when he received £170 million.
The new record-breakers are the second EuroMillions jackpots won in the UK this year, following the £109 million jackpot won a few days earlier.
When Mr Thwaite received an email informing him that he had won a prize, he assumed it was a fortunate dip.
“I then glanced at the total and hung up the phone.” I then picked up the phone and glanced at the amount once more.
He claimed, “At first, I believed it was in the hundreds,” and that it was “life-changing.”
“Amazing, but also bizarre,” he added as he “started counting the numerals.”
He then informed her that they had won £184 million, to which she replied, “Don’t be dumb.”
“This is a wonderful game to play, this is wrong, there’s obviously something wrong with the software,” Mrs Thwaite said.
“Let’s go with it and enjoy this moment of believing we’ve won the lotto since it’s not genuine,” she added.
“Right, I’ll go make coffee and get on with the day,” she said, adding that they decided to call the lottery office when it opened at 8 a.m.
“I didn’t think it was real to be honest,” Mrs Thwaite said when the staff told them they “absolutely had won.” I’m still not convinced it’s true.”
“I don’t think we are at the moment,” Jess Thwaite remarked when asked if they will continue working following their win.
