Andrew Russell Garfield (born August 20, 1983) is a British-American actor. He has won a Tony Award, a British Academy Television Award, and a Golden Globe Award, as well as nominations for a Laurence Olivier Award, two Academy Awards, and three British Academy Film Awards.
Garfield rose to prominence as Spider-Man in the superhero flicks The Amazing Spider-Man (2012), The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014), and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2016). (2021).
He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor for his roles as Desmond Doss in Hacksaw Ridge (2016) and Jonathan Larson in Tick, Tick… Boom! (2021). He was also nominated for a Golden Globe for the latter.
Lynn (née Hillman), Andrew Garfield’s mother, is from Essex, England, and Richard Garfield, his father, is from California. Richard was born in the United Kingdom, as were his parents.
Garfield was three years old when his parents relocated the family from Los Angeles to the United Kingdom, where he was raised in Epsom, Surrey.
Garfield was raised in a religious household. On his father’s side, he is Jewish, and he characterizes himself as a “Jewish artist.” His paternal grandparents came from Jewish immigrant families from Poland, Russia, and Romania who settled in London, and the family surname was original “Garfinkel.”
