Since January 26, 2021, Antony John Blinken has been the 71st Secretary of State of the United States of America.
From 2013 to 2015, he was President Barack Obama’s deputy national security adviser, and from 2015 to 2017, he was the deputy secretary of state.
From 1994 until 2001, Blinken worked in the State Department and in top positions on the National Security Council under the Clinton administration.
From 2001 to 2002, he was a senior fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
While serving as the Democratic staff director of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee from 2002 until 2008, he pushed for the war of Iraq in 2003.
Before aiding the Obama–Biden presidential transition, he was a foreign policy advisor for Joe Biden’s 2008 presidential campaign.
Between 1980 and 1984, Blinken studied social studies at Harvard University. He co-edited The Harvard Crimson, Harvard’s daily student newspaper, and produced a number of current-affairs articles.
Blinken spent a year as an intern at The New Republic after graduating from Harvard. He graduated from Columbia Law School with a J.D. in 1988 and worked as a lawyer in New York City and Paris.
Blinken collaborated with his father Donald to raise donations for Michael Dukakis, the Democratic presidential contender in 1988.
Over the course of two decades, Blinken has held prominent foreign policy posts in two governments. From 1994 to 2001, he was a member of the National Security Council’s (NSC) staff.
