Why Was A US Journalist Killed in Ukraine?
Renaud was shot by Russian soldiers in Irpin, according to Kyiv regional police commander Andriy Nyebytov, who did not provide further details about the incident as to why he was killed.
Renaud’s colleague was reportedly injured in the incident in a Kyiv suburb under a Russian attack. According to the Kyiv police’s Facebook page, the two were riding in a car that was fired upon by Russian troops.
One of the Americans died quickly, according to Danylo Shapovalov, a volunteer surgeon for Ukrainian territorial defense.
Initially, Kyiv regional police chief Nyebytov stated that the deceased journalist was employed by the New York Times.
The Times, on the other hand, stated that the journalist had formerly worked for the publication but was no longer employed by it. The journalist’s name was Brent Renaud, according to the New York Times.
On CBS’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday, Biden’s national security advisor, Jake Sullivan, said the news that a U.S. journalist in Ukraine was assassinated by Russians was “clearly startling and horrific.” Sullivan stated that he is inquiring into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Stuart Ramsay, a Sky News correspondent, was shot in the lower back earlier this month while traveling back to Kyiv in his car, which was ambushed. Since then, Ramsay has returned to the United Kingdom.
