Dave’s career in drumming started in 1986 when he auditioned with the band called Scream. The band at that time needed to fill the vacancy left when their drummer left. Dave was still in high school by then and when he was asked to join the band, he dropped out of school.
He was with the band for four years. Within that period, they had a lot of tours and recorded several albums. They recorded both live and studio albums. In 1990, Dave met with a band called Nirvana. He was informed that the band Nirvana was looking for a drummer. He was then invited to audition for the spot.
He got the spot after the audition and joined the band. He joined and played with the band for four years before finally joining the Foo Fighters in 1994.
