How many catches did Rod Marsh Drop?
He collected a then-world-record tally of 355 drops during a 14-year Test career that ended in 1983-84.
His attention, agility, and very skillful glovework have earned him a lot of respect from both fans and fellow players.
Marsh did not have an easy road to the top. He had to start as a specialist batsman in first-class cricket and then faced harsh criticism when he was elevated to the national squad ahead of the popular Brian Taber but there was little doubt about his skills in any arena after that.
Marsh was nimble-footed and had a consistent ability to shift acrobatically to intercept poor deliveries and receptions, while not having the perfect athletic physique.
He was a key player for both Western Australia and Australia, and his unbreakable bond with fast bowler Dennis Lillee the dismissal “caught Marsh bowled Lillee” was recorded 95 times in Tests is one of his country’s cricket heroes.
Apart from his wicketkeeping abilities, he was also a good batsman, achieving three Test hundreds, and his strong strokeplay was at the heart of many tenacious Australian lower-order efforts.
Marsh was a notable captain at the state level, guiding the state to a Sheffield Shield and Gillette Cup double in both formats in 1976–77.
In 20 Shield matches as captain, he had nine victories and seven defeats, while in the restricted overs competition, he had seven wins from nine matches.
