Ime Sunday Udoka (born August 9, 1977) is an American professional basketball coach and former player who is presently the head coach of the National Basketball Association’s Boston Celtics.
During his playing career, he was a member of the Nigerian national team.
Udoka was a Nigerian national team player. Udoka led Nigeria in scoring, assists, and steals at the 2006 FIBA World Championships.
Udoka also represented Nigeria in the FIBA Africa Championships in 2005 and 2011, winning a bronze medal in both competitions.
Under his Spurs head coach, Gregg Popovich, Udoka served as an assistant coach for USA Basketball.
Udoka’s work as a coach for the 2019 FIBA World Cup squad allowed him to form bonds with Celtics players Jayson Tatum, Jayson Brown, and Marcus Smart, all of whom pushed for his employment as the next head coach in Boston.
Along with Celtics assistant Will Hardy, Udoka coached for Team USA at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo under Popovich.
