The 12-year-doctors old’s believe he is “very likely” dead and that life support should be turned off.
The hospital wants the court to order a test to determine if he is alive or dead.
Hollie Dance and Paul Battersbee, his parents, have expressed reservations about the physicians’ plans.
On Thursday, Mrs. Justice Arbuthnot is due to hear the case in private in London.
Archie, who is being treated at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, east London, was injured while participating in an “internet challenge,” according to Ms. Dance.
Lauren, Archie’s sister, launched an Instagram profile to keep people updated on his care after he was admitted to the hospital.
Boxers David Haye and Ricky Hatton have sent films of support, and a Gofundme campaign has garnered over £14,000 in donations thus far.
Archie’s family is being supported by the Christian Legal Centre, a campaign organization.
Andrea Williams, the center’s chief executive, stated, “We are standing with Archie and his family every step of the road.”
“We want to provide him with every opportunity to live.”
