Ikemefuna “Ickey” Ekwonu is an American football offensive lineman for the National Football League’s Carolina Panthers. He was born on October 31, 2000. (NFL). He stands 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighs 310 pounds.
He is of Nigerian descent and attended North Carolina State University, where he has named a consensus All-American and awarded the Jacobs Blocking Trophy as the Atlantic Coast Conference’s outstanding blocker in 2021. In the 2022 NFL Draft, the Panthers selected Ekwonu sixth overall.
Ekwonu grew raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, and attended Providence Day School. To play NCAA football, Ekwonu picked North Carolina State over Georgia Tech, Maryland, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.
Ekwonu started the final seven games of his freshman season at left tackle, leading the team in pancake blocks with 37 and earning a berth on the FWAA Freshman All-America team.
Following the conclusion of the 2021 season, Ekwonu stated that he would forego his remaining collegiate eligibility in order to enter the 2022 NFL Draft, where he was chosen sixth overall by the Carolina Panthers.
