Barbara Allende Gil de Biedma, popularly known as Ouka Leele, was a Spanish photographer. She was born on June 29, 1957, and passed away on May 24, 2022.
Her great-uncle was the renowned poet Jaime Gil de Biedma, and her cousin Esperanza Aguirre served as President of the Community of Madrid from 2003 to 2012.
In addition to her work as a photographer, artist, and author of many poetry collections, she was one of the most influential photographers of the Madrilena movement.
She was a part of the Agence VU organization. On May 24th, 2022, she passed away. The Premio Nacional de Fotografa, Ministry of Culture, 2005, the Premio de Cultura de la Comunidad de Madrid, 2003 (photography), and the Premio acaro de Artes Plásticas, Diario 16, 1983 were among the many honors that were bestowed upon Ouka Leele.
In addition, her works can be found in the collections of the Centre of Vieille Charité in Marseille, the Photography Andalusian Centre Collection Arco in Madrid,
the Foundation Cartier in Paris, the Foundation La Caixa in Barcelona, the Cervantes Institute in Lisbon, the Museo Nacional Centro de Art in Madrid’s Reina Sofa, and Tabaco Gitanes in Paris.
