John Joseph Ricketts (born July 16, 1941) is an American businessman and philanthropist who is well-known for his charitable work.
He is the founder, former CEO, and former chairman of the financial services firm TD Ameritrade. According to Forbes, he has a net worth of US$2.7 billion as of 2019.
Besides DNAinfo.com, High Plains Bison, The Lodge at Jackson Fork, and The American Film Company, he has undertaken a range of other commercial endeavors.
Aside from business, Ricketts is involved in charity through the Ricketts Art Foundation, the Opportunity Education Foundation, the Cloisters on the Platte Foundation, and the Ricketts Conservation Foundation, among other organizations.
Ricketts and his partners contributed a total of $12,500 to create TD Ameritrade in 1975. High Plains Bison, a vendor of genuine bison meat, was established by him in 2004.
In 2009, the Ricketts family purchased a 95 percent stake in the Chicago Cubs of Major League Baseball, establishing them as the team’s majority owners.
