American basketball coach John Vincent Calipari was born on February 10, 1959, in New York City.
He has been the men’s basketball coach at the University of Kentucky since 2009, and in 2012, he led the Wildcats to their first NCAA title. Basketball Hall of Fame inductee and Naismith College Coach of the Year three times (1996), 2008, 2015, respectively.

Officials at the university claim that on March 31, 2009, John Calipari signed a formal contract. The deal was for $34.65 million over the course of eight years, plus bonuses.
Calipari was officially presented as the new head coach by University of Kentucky Director of Athletics Mitch Barnhart on April 1, 2009.
It was at the press conference that Calipari talked extensively about his personal links with previous UK basketball players and coaches, as well as his difficulty in accepting the UK position because of his strong emotional attachments to both Memphis and the university.
As Calipari put it, “Coming to the UK was the easy part, it was leaving the city of Memphis that was the difficult part.” Afterward, he referred to the University of Kentucky coaching post as his “dream job.”
