Sotomayor Sonia is an associate justice at the supreme court of the United States. She was born on June 25, 1954, in Bronx, New York. Sonia is of Latino descent but has an American nationality since she was born and raised there. She is the third woman to hold the person in the Supreme Court after she was appointed by former President Barack Obama in 2009.
Sonia Sotomayor was born to Puerto Rican parents Celina Baez and Juan Sotomayor. Celine, Sonia’s mother was a nurse and a telephone operator and her father was a tool and dye worker. Both of her parents had left Puerto Rico separately but met and married during World War II in America.
Celina worked for 35 years at the Prospect Hospital in the South Bronx. She passed away on July 25, 2021, at the age of 94 due to complications from Cancer.
Juan Sotomayor only had a third-grade education and could not speak English so he worked as a tool and dye worker which was the easiest job for someone who was not from the country and could not speak English. Juan died when Sonia was nine years old and was succeeded by his wife Celina, Sonia, and her brother Juan Sotomayor Jr.
