Freddy Rincon was a Colombian professional footballer who played 84 games for the Colombia national team between 1990 and 2001.

He was mostly positioned as a center midfielder, with a few appearances as an offensive and right midfielder thrown in for good measure. Three FIFA World Cups were won by the right-footed player.

Rincón began his professional career in 1986 with Atlético Buenaventura before moving on to Indep. Santa Fe. He joined CD América, a top-tier team, in January 1990.

In February 1990, Rincón made his international debut against Uruguay in a friendly match. He mostly played in the center of the field, with a few appearances as an offensive midfielder or right midfielder thrown in for good measure. Three FIFA World Cups were won by the right-footed player.

Rincón made international headlines when he scored an equalizer in the second minute of stoppage time against eventual World Cup winner Germany in Colombia’s Group D match at the 1990 FIFA World Cup.

The late Freddy Rincon was born alongside two siblings, Manuel Rincon and Ignacio Rincon. Manuel Rincon has also spoken about the death of his late brother Freddy Rincon.

Speaking to El País, he said; “The first thing he told me was not to stop balls at what people said outside the clinic, to believe what my family was telling me, which is the one next to Freddy in the clinic. He tells me that his dad is fighting, he is’ warring ‘and fighting with this, and we are helping him with the prayers. Freddy is serious, but he’s fighting and fighting for his life. May the glorious father get him out of this situation.”
