Mark Walter is an American businessman and the CEO of Guggenheim Partners, a privately-held worldwide financial services corporation with over $310 billion in assets under management and offices in Chicago and New York. He is also a part-owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers Major League Baseball team.
Walter grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and attended Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School. In 1996, he co-founded the Liberty Hampshire Company, LLC in Chicago with Steven E. Johnson.
He was a founding member of Guggenheim Partners, LLC in 2000. Today, he is the CEO of Guggenheim Partners, a global, diversified financial services organization with over $260 billion in assets under management, 2,300 employees, and 25 offices in six countries around the world.
On May 1, 2012, Walter assisted in the $2.15 billion purchase of the Los Angeles Dodgers by Guggenheim Baseball Management, LLC, a private partnership created in 2011 to acquire the team. Peter Guber, Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Stan Kasten, Todd Boehly, and Bobby Patton are his partners at Guggenheim Baseball Management.
In 2018, Billie Jean King and her companion Ilana Kloss became part of the Los Angeles Dodgers ownership group. Alan Smolinisky and Robert L. Plummer, both entrepreneurs, joined the ownership group in September 2019.
