Philip Baker Hall was born in Toledo, Ohio, on September 10, 1931. After working as a translator for the US Army, he went on to perform in Off-Broadway and Broadway plays in New York City. He made his film debut as Father Reis in “Cowards” in 1970.
After then, he became a regular on both the big and small screens. In the 1990s, he rose to popularity as a result of his several collaborations with filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson, playing in films such as “Magnolia,” “Hard Eight,” and “Boogie Nights.”
Baker who was known as a jowly actor whose expression of regret and scowling irritation transformed even the briefest of appearances into great portrayals of seriousness and silliness, best conveyed in a famous part as a hardcore library cop on “Seinfeld,” died June 12 at his Glendale, Califonia., home. He was 90 years old.
The cause, according to his daughter Anna Ruth Hall, was complications from emphysema. He used a portable oxygen tank in some of his later screen work.
Before his death, Philip Baker Hall had two daughters with his second wife Holly Wolfie; Ruth Baker and Anna Ruth Baker.
There isn’t much information on Adella Ruth Baker. She is solely recognized as the late actor’s daughter, but she lives a secluded life away from the media.
