Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed was the President of the United Arab Emirates, the Emir of Abu Dhabi, and the supreme commander of the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces from 2004 to 2022.
On November 3, 2004, he was elected President following the death of his father. From 1971 to 2004, his father, Sheikh Zayed, was President of the United Arab Emirates.
A solemn pledge was taken by him, promising to carry on his father’s work and safeguard the country’s future.
Aside from focusing on the oil and gas industry’s growth, he traveled over the country to get a sense of its needs and started programs to advance social services, education, housing, and public infrastructure.
He was also a big fan of football, which he learned about from his father. He pushed local teams to participate in events around the country and beyond. The year 2009 saw him win re-election to the office of President.
He was able to improve the country’s growth while also establishing beneficial ties with other countries.
He has also continued to be a generous giver in the face of other emergencies throughout the world, including natural disasters.
The Khalifa Excellence Award, the Khalifa Award for Education, the Debt Settlement Fund, and the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation are just a few of the initiatives he’s started.
