Michael Kay is the television play-by-play broadcaster of the New York Yankees and host of CenterStageon the YES Network, and the host of The Michael Kay Show heard on WEPN-FM in New York City.
Kay was up in a middle-class family in New York City and went to Bronx High School of Science, where he discovered his professional passion for reporting.
Later, he went to Fordham University to work at WFUV, the university’s non-commercial radio station. The university awarded him a bachelor’s degree in communications.
Rose Kay and her late spouse have a son named Kay. Danny Aiello, his uncle, is a well-known actor who has appeared in films such as “The Godfather: Part II,” “The Front,” and “Moonstruck.”
Kay began his professional career as a general assignment writer for the New York Post in 1982, progressing to sports-specific assignments for college basketball, the National Basketball Association, and the New Jersey Nets over time.
In 1987, he was assigned to write the Yankees’ beat. Kay departed the Post for the Daily News in 1989, continuing to focus on the Yankees.
