Natalie Portman is an Israeli-born American actress. With an extensive career in film since her teenage years, she has starred in various blockbusters and independent films, for which she has received multiple accolades, including an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award, and two Golden Globe Awards.
When Portman finished filming The Professional, she returned to school and appeared in the short film Developing, directed by Marya Cohn, during the summer of 1994.
She portrayed a young child who had to deal with her mother’s (Frances Conroy) terminal illness in the film. Anne of Green Gables was one of the plays she performed at Stagedoor Manor’s performing arts camp.
For her ability to depict disorder without frenzy, Michael Mann cast her in the small role of Al Pacino’s suicidal stepdaughter in the action thriller Heat (1995).
Her performance in The Professional convinced director Ted Demme to cast her in the comedy-drama Beautiful Girls as a precocious youngster who flirts with her much older neighbor (played by Timothy Hutton) (1996).
She later returned to Stagedoor Manor to perform in a performance of Cabaret. Both Woody Allen’s Everyone Says I Love You and Tim Burton’S Mars Attacks! featured Portman in small roles.
